The Indira Gandhi National Open University (IGNOU) Bachelor of Commerce with Major in Accountancy and Finance (BCOMAF) program has undergone several revisions since its inception in 1985. The following is a brief overview of the course history:
1985: The BCOMAF program was introduced as a three-year program with six semesters. The program was designed to provide students with a comprehensive understanding of accounting, finance, and business principles.
1994: The BCOMAF program was revised to make it more relevant to the changing business environment. The new curriculum included a greater emphasis on computer applications and information technology.
2002: The BCOMAF program was again revised to further strengthen its focus on accounting and finance. The new curriculum included more in-depth courses on these subjects.
2010: The BCOMAF program was again revised to make it more flexible and accessible to students. The new curriculum included a greater number of elective courses and a reduced number of compulsory courses.
2016: The BCOMAF program was again revised to align it with the latest developments in accounting and finance. The new curriculum included new courses on topics such as corporate governance and financial risk management.
The current curriculum for the BCOMAF program consists of 24 courses, including 14 foundation courses, 6 core courses, and 4 elective courses. The program can be completed in a minimum of three years and a maximum of six years.
Eligibility for Admission
To be eligible for admission to the IGNOU B.Com (A&F) programme, you must have:
- Passed 10+2 or its equivalent examination.
- Passed Common Proficiency Test (CPT)/PE-I/Foundation from the Institute of Chartered Accountants of India (ICAI).
- Registered for Professional Competence Course (PCC)/PE-II/Intermediate (Chartered Accountancy First Stage) of ICAI; or
- Already passed PCC/PE-III/Intermediate.

The IGIGNOU BCOMAF programme comprises of 96 credits, out of which 32 credits are from IGNOU and 64 credits are part of the Chartered Accountancy course (First Stage).

Evaluation System
The IGNOU B.Com (A&F) programme is evaluated through a combination of assignments, term-end examinations, and practical examinations.
Award of Degree/Credit Transfer
Upon successful completion of the IGNOU BCOMAF programme, students will be awarded a Bachelor of Commerce degree with Major in Accountancy and Finance. Students who have already passed the Chartered Accountancy First Stage examination will be given automatic credit transfer for those courses in the IGNOU B.Com (A&F) programme.
Duration of the Programme
The minimum duration of the IGNOU BCOMAF programme is three years. However, students can take up to five years to complete the programme.
