How to Calculate the SSC CGL Marks For Tier 1 & Tier 2?
To calculate the SSC CGL marks for Tier 1 and Tier 2 separately, follow the marking scheme set by the Staff Selection Commission (SSC) and refer to the SSC CGL answer key.
Exam Tier | Marking Scheme | Total Marks |
Tier 1 | 2 marks for correct answer, -0.5 marks for incorrect answer, 0 marks for un-attempted question | 200 |
Tier 2 – Paper 1 | 1 mark for correct answer, -1 mark for incorrect answer | 200 |
Tier 2 – Paper 2 and 3 | 1 mark for correct answer, -0.5 marks for incorrect answer | 400 |
Total | 800 |
To calculate the marks for each tier separately, you need to add up the marks obtained for each correct answer and then subtract the marks lost due to incorrect answers. The final score will be the sum of all the correct answers minus the sum of all the incorrect answers multiplied by the negative marking factor (0.5 for Tier 1 and 1 for Paper 1 of Tier 2, and 0.5 for Paper 2 and 3 of Tier 2).
To calculate the SSC CGL marks for Tier 1 and Tier 2 separately, consider the following example and refer to the SSC CGL answer key.
- Suppose a candidate attempted the following questions in SSC CGL:
- 100 questions in SSC CGL Tier 1 and answered 80 of them correctly.
- 150 questions in Paper 1 of Tier 2 and answered 120 of them correctly.
- 100 questions in Paper 2 and 3 of Tier 2 and answered 70 of them correctly.
- The candidate also answered the following questions incorrectly:
- 20 questions in Tier 1.
- 30 questions in Paper 1 of Tier 2.
- 15 questions in Paper 2 and 3 of Tier 2.
- To calculate the candidate’s score for each tier separately, use the following formula:
- For SSC CGL Tier 1: (Number of correct answers x 2) – (Number of incorrect answers x 0.5)
- For Paper 1 of Tier 2: (Number of correct answers x 3) – (Number of incorrect answers x 1)
- For Paper 2 and 3 of Tier 2: (Number of correct answers x 0.5) – (Number of incorrect answers x 0.5)
- Using the above formula, the candidate’s score for each tier would be:
- Tier 1: (80 x 2) – (20 x 0.5) = 160 – 10 = 150
- Paper 1 of Tier 2: (120 x 3) – (30 x 1) = 120 – 30 = 330
- Paper 2 and 3 of Tier 2: (70 x 0.5) – (15 x 0.5) = 35 – 7.5 = 27.5
- Therefore, the candidate’s total score for SSC CGL would be 150 + 330 + 27.5 = 507.5.
The marking scheme for both SSC CGL Tier 1 and Tier 2 is a bit different. In the case of Tier 1 for every correct answer, you are awarded 2 marks; for every wrong answer, a negative marking of 0.50 is done.
Under the Tier 2 exam for paper 1, the negative marking is 0.25 while the rest of the papers under tier 2 have a negative marking of 0.50 while 2 marks are awarded for the correct questions in all the papers.
