The Indira Gandhi National Open University (IGNOU) Bachelor of Arts (General) in Urdu (BAG Urdu) programme was launched in 2019 under the Choice Based Credit System (CBCS). The CBCS is a flexible system that allows students to choose their courses from a wide range of disciplines, which is designed to provide students with a broad-based education in Urdu language and literature, as well as in other humanities and social sciences disciplines.

The IGNOU BAG Urdu programme is a three-year program, with a minimum duration of three years and a maximum duration of six years.
